The USF Zooarchaeology and Historic Archaeology Lab is a new research space focusing on the identification and analysis of faunal remains from archaeological contexts, and the archaeology of the post-Columbian Atlantic World . The lab houses a comparative collection containing mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds, and invertebrates with a focus on fauna of the Southeastern United States and Caribbean. The lab also provides space for faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and visiting researchers.
In addition, the lab houses tools and materials for archaeological excavation and analysis of historic artifacts. The primary focus is on historic Florida and the Caribbean. Finally, the lab provides faculty and students with the space and resources for public outreach. Public outreach is a large component of the projects conducted through the lab.
